Dear FLW Community,

This letter is to present our testing plan for the upcoming state’s Forward Assessment. This is an assessment that ALL students throughout the state will be taking.   At Frank Lloyd Wright, the grade level testing subjects are as follows:

Grade 6- Math, Reading, and Writing

Grade 7- Math, Reading and Writing

Grade 8- Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science

Our school’s testing window will occur from Monday, March 19th through Friday, May 4th.  The Forward Assessment measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Their performance on the assessment will not affect any of their current grades, however, the results will be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren).  Please encourage your student(s) to take the test seriously and do the best they can.

Throughout this time period, each 6th grade and 7th grade student will be testing for approximately two classroom periods on four different days. Each 8th grade student will be testing for approximately two classroom periods on four different days and one period for two days,  in order to complete the additional assessments in Social Studies and Science.

Core classroom teachers will arrange when their classes will be completing these assessments using the ENTIRE window provided (March 19th through May 4th).  For specific times for testing, please contact your child’s core teachers.

This schedule was created to provide for the best testing environment for all of our students.  Throughout this six week window of testing, we will be able to provide normalcy to our school day.  Instead of delayed starts or altering our schedules significantly, we incorporated this assessment into the structure we are already used to.  Here are some reminders on behalf of our staff:

  1. Please make sure that your student is in attendance during this testing window.  If appointments need to be made, the majority of our testing schedule occurs during the morning block of time.  Please make appointments in the afternoon.

  2. Please monitor that your student is getting appropriate sleep when their grade is testing.

  3. Please make sure that your child is eating a proper breakfast before coming to school.  Our school also provides a breakfast opportunity for students beginning at 7:05 a.m.

Thank you for your support,

Jeff Thomson
